Postdoctoral position in bivalve biology – relating environmental records in biological archives to climate variations on ocean margins over the last 20 years (closed)

We seek a person with strong background in biogeochemistry and ecology together with a good knowledge of sclerochronological techniques and bivalve behaviour. The major task will be to describe scallop reactions to environmental changes, assess growth response and finally extract environmental proxies from the shells of individuals of the great scallop Pecten maximus from the continental shelf (30-200m deep) of the Iroise Sea (47°30 to 48°30N and 4°20 to 8°30W) over the last 20 years. A special emphasis will consist on relating the corresponding behaviours/proxies to ecosystem dynamics (e.g., carbon and nutrient cycling, primary production). The work will require the integration of data from different sources, including probes deployed and long-term time-series of satellite remote–sensing surface climatology and models outputs from existing modelling for the North Atlantic region.

Deadline : 6th of April 2009 (closed)
