Europole Mer : research consortium on marine science and technology in Brittany

The aim of this project is to generate a user-friendly database resource for the genome of the filamentous brown alga Ectocarpus. To create this resource, we proposed

1. to improve the large-scale assembly of the genome by assigning supercontigs to linkage groups using a genetic map,
2. to improve the identification of transcribed regions using a whole genome tiling array approach,
3. to carry out a detailed manual annotation of the genome and
4. to create an internet-accessible genome database in Roscoff that willcentralise the output from these and other analyses.

The genetic map and tiling array parts of the project have been completed and a manuscript integrating the results of these analyses and the genome annotation has been submitted. Future work will focus on
the establishment of the genome database.
